PRIMARY EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVES

Human Systems Integration (HSI) Engineer applies mixed methods human factors engineering and/or user experience research into pre-product exploration, the product development cycle and incorporates subject matter expertise and subjective user feedback into the industrial design process. HSI Engineer designs experiments, leverages technical hardware and software and applies quantitative analytic methods to assess physical/cognitive load introduced by soldier equipment. HSI Engineer communicates results and recommendations to the Industrial Design and Engineering team in a clear and direct way. Research focuses on improving warfighter situational awareness through the integration of the following advanced technologies: Heads Up Displays (HUDs), Visual Augmentation Systems (VAS), Aural and Haptic Communications Systems, Visual/Aural Attention and Localization.

YOU WILL BE EVALUATED ON YOUR ABILITY TO

  • Investigate and analyze characteristics of human behavior and performance as it relates to the use of technology in warfighter contexts.
  • Perform usability testing and product assessment with both qualitative and quantitative methods at all stages of design and development.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments using methods and equipment from the following fields: Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Human Factors, Ecological Psychology, and Experimental Psychology, Human Machine Interface.
  • Incorporate subject matter expertise into the design process.
  • Report results, and recommendations to enable interpretation and application for improved product design
  • Assist (WSIL) Manager with supervision, training, and mentoring of junior partners and collaborators.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years’ experience in related fields OR,
  • Master’s degree plus 2 years of experience OR, PhD in related fields.
  • Military experience is a plus.
  • A strong foundation in collecting, analyzing, and applying kinematic, kinetic, and physiological data for engineering applications, and robust scientific computing skills required.
  • Experience completing projects involving product testing and development.
  • Experience with mixed reality devices and their impact on physical and/or cognitive load.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python Required.
  • Computer science and/or mathematics background (trigonometry, calculus) is a plus.
